Healthy morning habits – how to give your day a fresh start

Stress is the root of many evils. It’s a fact that you can get rashes and bad skin from stress, and it can affect your chemical balance and – naturally – your general well-being.

Stress affects our minds. We get less perceptive for positive input and get stuck, unable to grow mentally and find that our inner peace.

In my latest blog I talked about good evening routines. But good morning routines are of course also very important. I know it’s not everyone who has the luxury of sleeping late in the mornings, but you should least during weekends allow your body to decide how long you should stay in bed. But remember over-sleeping is actually not always good for the mind either. All of us have different needs and different rhythms, so find you own need and build on it. Listen to the signals your body tries to send to you.

But some general rules for a healthy morning routine are the same for most of us. Firstly, make sure you get enough sleep. Not too little and not too much.

Secondly, make sure you don’t need to rush in the mornings. If you have an early appointment, then go up earlier so you still can enjoy a calm morning without stress. Starting a day in stress is never a good thing. Gaze out of a window and look at the sky, take your time to wake up slowly.

A healthy breakfast is also important. You need energy to meet a new day. I prefer eggs and vegetables and fruits. Try to avoid food that makes your belly work too hard, like white bread. Be gentle to yourself.

Physical health and mental health are closely linked together. Exercise is good for you. Exercising in the morning suits some but not all. It depends on what kind of person you are. But you should never dash off to the gym if you’re in a hurry. And sometimes going for a walk can be just as good for you as a spinning pass at the gym. Once again: listen to your body.

But perhaps the most important morning routine of all: when you see yourself in the mirror, remember to say hi to yourself, hug yourself and realize that you are a unique and beautiful person.

We are all unique and beautiful. But many of us need to be reminded of that.
